STRAWBERRY QUICK

JUST A HEADS UP

I saw this article on the Internet and felt I should pass it on. From what I could find, it started in 2007. I don't know why we are just now hearing about it.

New techniques and gimmicks to lure our kids into addiction are always present. We need to do our best to make parents and children aware of these drugs as soon as we are made aware of them.

The Artical said:

There is a new drug going around in schools. It is called Strawberry Quick. It is a new crystal meth going around that looks like that candy POP ROCKS. Its that candy that pops in your mouth when you eat it. Drug traffickers are trying to lure new customers, no matter their age. The article said, it was first reported in Nevada. Please advise your children NOT to take candy from anyone, not even friends, because they may have been given the drug not knowing what it is.

SNOPES

I looked this up on Snopes and they say that in all their research they have not found one thing to support the allegations that Strawberry Quick has been handed out at schools or that any children have ingested it.

I researched this matter further and found this article:

Senators Feinstein and Grassley Introduce Legislation to Penalize Drug Dealers Who Market Candy-Flavored Meth to Children

Washington, DC– U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) today introduced legislation to increase the federal criminal penalties for drug dealers who entice children with candy-flavored methamphetamine and other flavored drugs.

The legislation comes in the wake of recent reports detailing the growing trend of candy-flavored meth. According to law enforcement officers and drug treatment officials, methamphetamine and other illegal drugs are being colored, packaged and flavored in ways designed to attract children and minors. The flavored meth first appeared on the streets earlier this year, and is being sold to children and teens.

I also read the Drug Enforcement Administration and the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy have issued warnings on the trend of flavored methamphetamine. In San Francisco, police report that since late January they have been arresting teens in possession of meth designed to taste like chocolate. The Haight-Asbury clinic also confirms that chocolate-flavored methamphetamine is being used on the streets.

Well Shopes, it looks to me like someone is taking it serious.

I don't mean to alarm anyone or to spread anything that is false. You know that old saying.

IT IS BETTER TO BE SAFE THEN SORRY

I am not normally like that, honestly, but these drug dealers who are soo callous to do a thing like I wish they a slow and painful death. There must be some justice somewhere. I think even the devil would restrain from something like that. What is this world coming to?

You are right Granny it is better safe than sorry. It is so unfortunate now that kids have to endure such life threatening things so early in life. Thanks for sharing :)

When my kids were in high school, we heard of a crack dealer in the neighborhood. I told my kids if I find out I will turn them in. My kids were scared and said no Mom don't say that, they will come after you. I told them I didn't care. I told them I would do anything to keep them and other kids in the neighborhood safe.

Hi, Granny, this is another one that makes me sick. I live in a beautiful town in England, and in the day we have loads of visitors and rich people swanning around, but at night out come the druggies. selling this, selling that, I have had so many panics when my son was a teenager, that I nearly set up a stand on the corner to watch out for them. I remember once when they used to hang around my estate, until I opened my mouth and yelled! my son had a fit at me, but I just lost my temper. thanks nell

We cannot be too vigilant where drugs are concerned as our youngster's lives are at stake. Thanks for the heads up Granny.

Doesn't surprise me. Kids prefer sweet things like candy. Drinking cough medicine is one example. Also why beverages like Mikes Hard Lemonade and the fruit flavored malt liquor beverages (similar to wine coolers) appeal to young palates.

Thanks for the heads up.

Good research. MM

I've heard of Strawberry Quick. Devish stuff, no doubt. I've also heard of this orange heroin (called cheese) sold to kids on the streets of Dallas, Texas. It sells for as little as $2.00 a bag. If that's not alarming, what is? Later!

KKG, kids are always targeted. That is why I did this hub so parents can make their children aware and know about it so if they are ever approached they will know to say NO.
